Instagram now lets you bookmark posts with friends and store them in a dedicated space

Instagram

Instagram released 2017 a bookmarking feature named “collections,” which allowed users to categorize saved posts into private groups for convenient access. Recently, Instagram introduced a new feature that allows users to create collections with their friends, called “collaborative collections.”

This feature enables people to connect with friends over shared interests by saving posts to a collaborative collection in their group chat or a one-on-one DM. Collaborative collections can be used for planning a trip or curating a dedicated space where friends can share posts about their mutual interests, such as memes, baking recipes, workout tips, craft ideas, and more.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, announced on the IG Updates Channel that when users save a post from their feed or DMs, they will now see a new option to create a collaborative collection. Users can then give the collection a custom name and share it with their friends. Any member of the chat can add or remove posts from the collection, and users can add posts directly from a chat to a collaborative collection by tapping the bookmark icon next to the post.

Collaborative collections can be seen as a way for Instagram to rival Pinterest, which has offered a similar feature called “Group boards” since 2018, allowing users to collaborate on the platform. This new feature follows Instagram’s recent release of “Channels,” a broadcast chat feature that enables creators to share public, one-to-many messages to directly engage with their followers.

In summary, Instagram’s new collaborative collections feature provides users with a convenient way to connect with friends over shared interests and plan trips, among other things.
